Film on Sunday - The Pearl Button

Two hundred years after European colonisers in Chile suppressed the indigenous seafaring population of Patagonia, the Pinochet regime used the same waters to dispose of the bodies of murdered opponents. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Tierra del Fuego coastline, the film investigates the power of the ocean and its role in shaping the lives of the people around it. The haunting Chilean documentary is less jounalism and more a history of a personalized and meditative sort.
