TASHI LHUNPO MONKS

Tibetan Chant, mantras, music and dance performed by Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. A magical window on to a world of reincarnation and Buddhist mysticism which has inspired audiences in theatres and festivals throughout Europe over the last decade.

From the contemplative, mesmerising chant of Buddhist texts to swirling costumed masked dances accompanied by Tantric instruments from antiquity, including conch-shell trumpets, horns made from human leg bones, skull drums, meditation bells  and the shattering sound of the majestic dungchen or long horns, the Monks evoke the atmoshere of sacred  Tibet and offer an experience of an ancient culture accessible to all.

The performances include introductory explanations allowing audiences to gain more insight into this endangered world.

A workshop is planned for Saturday morning. The workshop would be suitable for all ages, and offers the chance to learn some of the dance steps, discover more   about the system of debate in the Buddhist tradition called Taksel and learn some of the mudras from a Tantric prayer.
